What is FlexTable?

FlexTable is a native desktop database client for SQL and NoSQL. You download it, connect to your databases, and run queries, browse and edit data, and manage schemas from one app. It runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux, and is free during beta.

If you searched “flextable” and expected an R package, this is a different project with the same name. See the note below.

FlexTable the database client, and flextable the R package

Two unrelated projects share the name.

They do different things for different people. Nothing on this site relates to the R package, and this page exists so search engines and readers can tell the two apart.

What FlexTable does

One editor handles SQL and NoSQL: SQL and T-SQL, a shell-style query editor for MongoDB, and a command editor for Redis with live Pub/Sub. Around that sit schema-aware autocomplete, a virtualised grid for large result sets, staged edits you review before they commit, auto ER diagrams, query-plan visualization, and charts from query results. It imports and exports CSV, JSON, SQL, and Excel, and does backup and restore across engines.

It is privacy-first: no usage telemetry, credentials stored locally, and AI features that call your own provider with your own key rather than routing through a FlexTable server.

FAQ

Is FlexTable the same as the R flextable package?
No. FlexTable here is a desktop database client you install and run. The R flextable package builds formatted tables inside R and installs from CRAN. Same name, unrelated projects.
What is FlexTable?
A database GUI client that manages SQL and NoSQL databases in one app. It connects to PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, SQLite, MongoDB, and Redis.
Which databases does it support?
PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, SQLite, MongoDB, and Redis today. More are on the roadmap.
Is FlexTable free?
It is free during beta. There is an optional PRO tier, with a free lifetime license for the first 500 users and no credit card required.
Is it Electron?
No. FlexTable is a native app, so the download is small (around 11 to 14 MB) and it starts without the overhead of a bundled browser.
Does FlexTable send my data anywhere?
No usage telemetry, and your credentials stay on your machine. AI features call your own provider directly with your own key. The only outbound calls are update checks, backup-tool downloads, and license activation if you use PRO.
